I just finished a 7 day Yin Yoga Series. Yoga with Kassandra. I am totally in love with Yin Yoga and Kassandra! Yin Yoga was designed to help one sit longer in meditation. I love sitting! I want to be able to sit longer ...anywhere???
Here is what Wikipedia says:
Yin yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fascia, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. A more meditative approach to yoga, yin aims at cultivating awareness of inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality.
I keep hurting myself with all forms of exercise lately. To me, if I am not sweating it isn't a work out so maybe I need to switch it up and try something that nurtures my body instead of breaking it down.
The term “yin yoga” comes from the Taoist tradition. Yang relates to movement, so I guess regular yoga is yang, creating heat in the body. Yin is about finding stillness and cooling the body. And, the theory goes, we need both to come into balance to stay in optimum condition.
I have arthritis in my hands and I have recently been told I also have Carpal Tunnel. So the Yoga poses with weight on my hands and forearms end up causing me issues the next day. I think Yin Yoga is good for me as I am getting older and I need to loosen up my joints and connective tissue. I sent Kassandra an email thanking her for the series and telling her how much I love it. I also mentioned my issues with my hands and she sent me the yoga series below and you know what? It is really helping with the pain in my hands!
